With a career that spans two and half decades at top salons in Tokyo, Paris and New York, Seiji Kitazato has an innate sense of style and a unique level of talent that has taken him across three continents during the course of his career.
Beginning his training as a stylist in Japan, Seiji quickly moved to Tokyo to launch the first French franchise of Jacques Dessange. Within two years, Seiji was granted the opportunity to study in Paris with acclaimed stylist Bruno Pittini. Granted the Top Stylist award by the end of his first year in France, he added the responsibility of working at the Academy as a technical trainer. Soon after he was handpicked to represent the salon with the top talent at the Paris international hair shows.
By 1990 Seiji had returned to Japan to head the training program in the Jacques Dessange academy in Tokyo while continuing to work in the flagship salon. Before long he was headed to New York City where Seiji honed his skills and learned to cater to the lifestyles and needs of his Manhattan clientele.
Seiji’s work philosophy is to always work with his client’s natural hair (and not against it). Known for creating feminine, natural, effortless and sexy styles, he believes that hair can change a woman’s mood and her sense of confidence resulting in a signature style that is as individual as her personality. The foundation for all of his styling lies in a belief that a total evaluation of lifestyle and physical characteristics is essential for creating the perfect cut.
Attracted to its strong service-based philosophy, Seiji soon signed on with Frederic Fekkai, where he has worked for the past 13 years and currently serves as the Co-Creative Director. Within his role at Fekkai he is a driving force behind the training program for Fekkai salons nationwide. Seiji has a strong conviction that talent should be nurtured and mentored as demonstrated by his commitment to training and guiding his peers over the last 20 years.
Seiji has worked backstage at top fashion shows like Diane Von Furstenberg, Chanel, Oscar de la Renta, Proenza Schouler and Nicole Miller. His editorial work has been featured in premiere fashion magazines like Harpers Bazaar, Allure, The New York Times Magazine, In Style and Marie Claire.
